“Why Single Women Are Exhausted — And Why Asking for Help Shouldn’t Feel Like Begging” - All Things Dawn

Asking for help shouldn’t feel like a confession, but for many single women it does. Working full-time, raising kids, holding the house together, and still trying to sleep like a normal mammal? That’s Olympic-level endurance. The twist is many don’t feel their community has shown up for them, so the idea of asking for help feels like setting themselves up for disappointment.

Three uncomfortable truths make it worse. Some people don’t help because they think “she chose this life.” Others avoid responsibility, afraid that helping once means helping forever. And some just don’t respect the invisible labor women do, so they don’t see the need in the first place.

There are workarounds. Start by asking small and specific; humans respond better to clear tasks than vague pleas. Build micro-support networks with neighbors, coworkers, or other parents. And claim rest as non-negotiable—paid babysitters, time swaps, and scheduled downtime count.

Real power grows when women stop pretending exhaustion is strength and start demanding space to breathe. Life expands when rest is treated as a right instead of a luxury.
